Nearly 90% of winter crops sowings in Ukraine show good and satisfactory condition

As of February 11, winter grains sowings in Ukraine showed good condition throughout the area of 3.89 mln ha, or 45.6% from the general area of sowings in the country. 3.77 mln ha or 44.1% of winter crops sowings had satisfactory condition, informed the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

10.3% of the sowing areas or 0.87 mln ha had weak and thinned condition of winter crops.

Winter wheat had good condition throughout the area of 3.09 mln ha – 46.4% of the general sowings, satisfactory condition – 2.9 mln ha (43.7%), weak and thinned condition – 0.65 mln ha (9.9%). Winter barley sowings condition was estimated as good throughout 0.64 mln ha (40.6% of the general barley sowings), 0.74 mln ha (47%) – satisfactory condition, and 0.19 mln ha (12.4%) – weak and thinned condition.

As of February 11, 37.9% of winter rapeseed sowings showed good condition, satisfactory condition – 41.6%, weak and thinned condition – 20.5%.

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, as of the reporting date, 4.9% from the general areas of sowings or 0.41 mln ha had ice covering, Particularly, Poltava oblast had 49.6% of winter crops under ice covering, Ivano-Frankivsk oblast – 29.9%, Kharkiv oblast – 15%, Cherkassy oblast – 12.1%, Sumy oblast – 11.4%, Lugansk oblast – 8.3%, Kiev oblast – 5.1%, Odessa oblast – 2.5%, Zakarpatskaya oblast – 2.2%, Khmelnytskyi oblast – 2.1%.

According to data of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the general condition of winter crops worsened compared to the end of January 2009.
