In 2008 Ukraine to export more than 15 mln tonnes of grain - Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation

In 2008, Ukraine will export more than 15 mln tonnes of grain, declared Leonid Kozachenko, the president of the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation, on September 2.

At the same time, the cancellation of the export ban in May caused an increase in the negative trade balance, which totaled 15 bln USD in the first six months of 2008. According to L.Kozachenko, if the export ban had been canceled earlier, the level of negative trade balance would have only reached 7 bln USD.

The export policy of the Ministry Cabinet of Ukraine is very difficult to predict since the main aim of the government is decreasing prices on the domestic market. According to L.Kozachenko, agricultural enterprises should not become tools used for creating social functions and the government should support national producers.
