Kazakhstan: Food Contract Corporation is interested in increase of grain shipments to Turkey

On June 19, negotiations between the representatives of Turkish Grain Board (TMO) and Food Contract Corporation regarding cooperation in the sphere of grain trade were carried on in the office of Food Contract Corporation, reported in the media-department of Food Contract Corporation.

The representatives expressed their interest in the long-term and stable cooperation with Food Contract Corporation even in the seasons, when Turkey would not need to import wheat.

In their turn Food Contract Corporation declared about interest in increase of Kazakh grain shipments to the Turkish market and continuing to work at this direction, and proposed to discuss supplies of milling wheat since September-October 2008, after harvesting of the new crop and lifting of the export ban.

During negotiations the parties discussed protocol of the meeting of Kazakhstan-Turkish intergovernmental joint economic committee, in particular, the question about agreement of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Turkey on realization and transportation of Kazakh grain through the Turkish territory to the world.

Food Contract Corporation reported that this clause was introduced in the protocol of the commission in 2006 taking into account completing of railway construction Akhalkhalaki-Kars in 2007, that is still not finished.

In their turn, TMO proposed to begin creation of the working group which would study logistics of a new route by visiting and inspection of the Turkish ports, railway stations, grain terminals and negotiating with the corresponding agencies.

In the end of the meeting the parties decided to continue more detailed negotiations concerning shipments of milling wheat in the end of August.
