Belarus' leader Alexander Lukashenko, speaking to subordinate authorities, insisted that starting from 2006 the country should not import above 100,000 tonnes of wheat from other countries. According to him, the basic needs of the nation should be covered with domestically produced grain and only small volumes of high-quality durum wheat could be imported for production of top-grade pasta and breads.
The Belarusian ruler also found very important to provide the country's brewing industry with locally produced malting barley.
